For 70 years, SIPA has been a place where a distinguished university, a great city, and the complex world intersect. Today, from the University's regional institutes to Wall Street, from its distinguished departments to City Hall, from Harlem to the United Nations, SIPA continues to benefit from and contribute to the University, the city and the world. Wide and flexible course offerings, ample internship opportunities, a spectacular global network of alumni all foster thinking about universal issues--human rights, environmental heath, economic development, adequate housing, security and conflict resolution, and many more--even as they instill sensitivity to the particular settings in which these issues are important

Graduate Program Overview

The MIA curriculum has been designed to develop international affairs experts, consultants, and executives who understand the increasingly complex issues that transcend national boundaries. Course offerings are balanced among four sectors: core curriculum, regional or functional concentration, the foreign language requirement, and electives. In addition, an internship--usually performed during the summer after the first year of course work--provides hands-on experience in your area of concentration.

MPA: What kind of education does it take to build quality schools where none existed? To found a shelter for battered women and keep it running day after day? To re-engineer a failing agency so it delivers services on time, in volume, and under budget? To create an immunization program for children who've never even seen a doctor? To float a billion dollar bond proposal to revitalize a declining city? To draft and pass a bill to help a neighborhood suffering from an environmental threat?

Around the world, MPA graduates do these jobs every day - and more.

The MPA curriculum emphasizes applying analytical tools to real world issues. The curriculum has 4 components: the core, an enrichment component, a concentration and a summer internship.
