PPIA Strengthens Leadership For Its Next Chapter

February 5, 2026

The Public Policy and International Affairs Program (PPIA) is entering its next chapter with strengthened alumni driven leadership across governance, finance, and executive management. All of the newly appointed leaders are PPIA alumni who participated in the Junior Summer Institute Program, reflecting a deep, shared connection to the organization’s mission and a long-term commitment to strong stewardship, alumni leadership, and sustained impact.

Josh Diosomito has been appointed PPIA’s permanent Executive Director. A proud PPIA alumnus, he brings more than 20 years of experience across public service, global leadership development, and nonprofit leadership to guide PPIA’s next phase of growth and impact.

Ray Orquiola has been appointed Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee, bringing executive communications and strategic leadership experience to strengthen financial stewardship, organizational discipline, and alumni engagement.

“This moment reflects a deliberate investment in leadership that strengthens both our governance and our long-term vision,” said Leigh Morris Sloane, PPIA Board Chair. “Each of these leaders brings the experience, judgment, and commitment needed to guide PPIA into its next chapter.”

PPIA welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors, adding expertise across research, governance, investment strategy, and community leadership:

  • LaSandra Hutchinson, a public policy leader and elected school board official, contributes experience in governance, civic engagement, and alumni leadership.

  • Magaly Lopez, Associate Director at the UCLA Labor Center, brings expertise in applied research, program evaluation, and equitable workforce development.

  • Ernesto Martinez, Ph.D., Senior Manager at Capital Group, adds expertise in market research, investment strategy, and nonprofit financial stewardship.

“With this leadership team in place, PPIA is well positioned to build on its legacy while moving forward with purpose,” said
Sophal Ear, Ph.D., PPIA Board Vice-Chair and Secretary. “We are confident in this team’s ability to steward the organization and expand opportunity for future public service leaders.”

Together, this leadership team positions PPIA for its next chapter, focused on strong governance, financial stewardship, and preparing future public service leaders.
